Each of the children received gardening tools from the Easter Bunny. The were given their own bucket on wheels, a shovel, a rake, a hoe, a hand trowel, and a hand rake. Their grandma R. gave them gardening gloves and small metal pails, too! They now have every tool they need to work in the Imagination Garden.

It is fun to see the children learn about gardening. They understand basic concepts that raised beds allow us to grow a garden on our rocky ground, how seeds are planted and turn into baby plants, that worms LOVE the compost bin, that worms are good, that bees are good, and about different types of vegetables.

My daughter loves to help in the garden. The boys - not so much. My daughter loves to screen rocks out of the soil. She wants so badly to be able to do it by herself without any help. The rocks and screen are a little heavy for her though.

After the bed was filled, we dug holes using a bulb planter, filled the holes with peat, and planted the sets and seeds in pure peat.

First Worm

These pictures were taken last Monday. The twins discovered the first worm of the season. Later on that afternoon, we discovered a bunch of worms while I moved the compost bin. We even saw what we referred to as the mother of all worms - it was thick and at least a foot long! Compost must be some yummy stuff in the worm world.
